Can Chinese Medicine Effectively Treat Women's Health?
Can Chinese Medicine help with women's health and if so how? In this blog, I will share with you what conditions Chinese Medicine can treat when it comes to gynecological issues and what modalities are used to get women results they are seeking.
Treating women's health and reproductive stages isn't new in Chinese Medicine. This medicine has been helping women with gynecological conditions for thousands of years. For example, the ancient text called Book Of Mountains and Seas from 470-220 BC discussed using herbal plants to treat infertility.
Chinese Medicine For Women's Health
Chinese Medicine has a unique way for treating women's health compared to Western Medicine. Even though disease names like endometriosis aren't used in this medicine, the symptoms are still the same like painful periods. By uncovering the pattern of dysfunction, then the practitioner will choose the the best acupuncture points and herbal medicine. What I mean by pattern is the root cause as for example the painful periods. Is it Qi or blood stagnation causing the pain? This isn't the only possible pattern, but I want to keep this blog more simplistic. By having the correct pattern diagnosis, then the proper treatment can be performed to stop the painful menses. Western Medicine addresses the disease and treats it all the same like prescribing birth control to regulate the hormones in order to prevent pain or to reduce the pain with opioids.

What To Expect At Your First Visit For Women's Health Conditions?
Your first appointment will be 90 minutes, which will include a thorough intake so I can learn all about your reproductive history and any other symptoms that could be a problem. Prior to coming to your appointment, you will complete a health history form and hormone survey, which will be covered during your appointment. My job as a holistic practitioner is to play detective to uncover the root cause of your reproductive health conditions. Then I will conduct a physical examination that will consist of some Western testing and Eastern testing. Depending on how much time is left, you will have an acupuncture treatment that will target your diagnosis.
How Long Is Treatment Plan For Women's Health?
Since women's health is very much regulated by hormones, progress may take longer than say treating a back pain. Every woman is unique and will have a different diagnosis and lifestyle challenges that could contributing to symptoms. The goal with treatment is to reduce the symptoms, optimize reproductive health, and reduce other factors like negative effects from stress. As a general rule, I like to break down treatment plans 1-3 months at a time. Infertility plans maybe 3 months, 6 months, or even 12 months.
Does Insurance Cover Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine For Women's Health?
Most insurance plans do cover acupuncture, however, gynecological conditions may not be covered. Insurance does not cover herbal consultations or formulas. Some health savings plans do pay for herbal formulas. It is best to contact your insurance company and find out all the details about your plan so you are informed of what is covered.
